Before and After: Red and Gold Mirror

I had posted about this mirror last week, as it has been available in FINDS...after it sat looking so lonely I wondered if maybe people weren't able to see the vision I had for it.  I listed that I could paint it the color of the buyers choice but still, nothing.

Enter in red lacquer and gold paint...

$235

I haven't styled it up or anything, but imagine it on a dark navy or black wall, or on a stark white wall.  Is it not to die for?  I painted the recessed areas of the mirror to make the scroll detailing stand out.  I used Krylon's Banner Red spray paint and Rub n' Buff in antique gold on the rest.

A few photos for consideration:

In other news...while peeing on some of its friends Lewis found a four leaf clover yesterday...

Hope everyone has a great St. Patty's day weekend!

Getting My Swag On...Swag Lamp That Is.

I just stole borrowed this branch from a tree in my neighborhood.  I love the way it looks with its delicate white flowers, but man does it stink to high heaven.  What up with that?

This weekend I picked up a vintage swag lamp that I decided needed to live with me for a while...

I think it really adds a touch of vintage bohemian glam (that's a style right?).  My favorite part is that it is a pull the tassel to turn it on/off kind of lamp.  Lately I feel like I want to add tassels to everything...my dog is tail-less and wouldn't it look great if he could have a tassel for a tail?  I think so too.  (As I write this he sees me eyeing him and his little nubbin tail and has started looking around nervously)

Close up of the shade:

I mean they just don't make shizz like that anymore.  Add that to my list of things to conquer, start a vintage lamp shade company.

Lonny Mag High School - LMHS Nice Ring, Yes?

As many of y'all may know, I'm a southerner by birth right, but what might come as a surprise is that I spent 5 of my formative years, the majority of which were in high school, living in Chicago, IL.  Yes, it's freezing there, but generally a really cool place to live.  Anyways, I opened up the latest copy of Lonny Magazine, and there on the cover was a friend of mine, Anna Burke, from my high school in Chicago.  She is an assistant to designer Celerie Kemble and she has a kick ass apartment in New York.  Let's browse shall we?

Yes she was this pretty in high school too...

On the left is an And Warhol print and a Bob Collins & Sons wall paper which has so much great color going on it's fantastic.  Even better the adjacent wall and floors are completely white which really makes this wall stand out.  The couch came from her grandparents beach house...lucky duck.

Ok, so this reaffirms my deep belief that I need a fiddle leaf fig tree all up in my apartment.  Also, this makes me sad that I have not found such an awesome coffee table and that I passed up these things for $5 at Goodwill yesterday....

Sigh.

Anna's use of color mixed with neutrals and variety of textures and materials really makes for a fantastic looking apartment and a great spread in Lonny.  I facebook messaged her telling her as much even though I don't think we've spoken since graduation a decade a couple of years ago.

If anyone in the Richmond area is interested in finding a vintage African headdress like the one seen in Anna's apartment let me know and I'll tell you where several are located!

What do you think of this space and the vintage and thrifted goodies in it?

Weekend Thrifties

Ok so the thrifting/picking was primo this weekend.  I ventured all the way to Charlotte, NC and found some things....

Found this one in the bario...there were only tiendas and hispanic stores in this area.  Not only did I get some delicious tacos, but I found this awesome vintage bamboo lamp in a thrift store for $10.  Yes, $10.  It pays to go every type of neighborhood.

I was in love with this couch.  It was immaculate, had a great fabric, and there were dragons on it.  Regretting not having the towing capacity to get it home.  It was priced ridiculously low.  Let's move on because I can't bear to talk about it any more.

Saw this for $200, was dying, dying to buy it.  Someone had it on hold.  They have my number to call me if that person doesn't take it.  I have visions of one of these lamps in my living room.

We made an appt. to get into this warehouse space that is essentially packed to the gills.  It's not open to the public, and you have to know who to call to get in and have to crawl over chairs and rugs to get around.  It's now going to be one of my best kept secrets.  This person has multiple warehouses that are just like this all over the state.  It was heaven.  Oh and you can see A in the back looking at stuff!

Got this great blanc de chine lamp and original artwork from the space.

And this Dora Maar Hollywood Regency 8 face vase.  I love it.

This isn't even the tip of the iceberg from this weekend.  So much more goodness coming and some photos of what I envision it looking like in a space!

Thrifting Knowledge = Thrifting Power

THIS is a great article, from Emily Henderson's blog, about thrifting.  I couldn't have said it better myself.  I'll be thrifting in Charlotte, NC this Saturday....watch out!

Pygmy Hippos

Can we just take a moment and discuss whether or not you think I could find a pygmy hippo on the black market?

My dog reminds me of a pygmy hippo....but I also have a thing where every animal I see reminds me of my dog....do you do that too?  I mean cows, pigs, cats, you name it, they all remind me of my dog.

On another front, these are things in my apartment that are currently making me happy.

Orange elephants on my window sill

Little table in my office.

I came home Sunday night and decided to re-arrange my entire living room configuration.  We are now featuring a catywompus couch to wall relationship.

Azaleas are blooming!

Added a little pink lantern to the hallway with my Mr. Blackwell print.

And this guy.  This guy always makes me happy.

What's tripping your trigger in your house right now?  Any good flowers blooming where you are?

Mirror, Mirror

We are mirror rich in the booth, FINDS, right now.  Mirror rich I tell you.

$155

And this also....

$160
Can you imagine it painted with either gold or white to highlight the Greek key-esque raised parts?  I can't stand how good it is.

And then there is also this...

$95

I think all are good deals, especially when a good mirror can just MAKE a space.  You know what I mean?  Of course you do, we're homies like that.

I feel like everyone has a mirror that they love or that they are searching for.  What mirrors are on your radar right now?
